Announcing HUNT THE EVER WILD by S.E. KISER! 🔥

We are thrilled to finally announce Angry Robot’s acquisition of HUNT THE EVER WILD by debut author S.E. Kiser! This new fantasy standalone combines the gaslamp fantasy of C. L. Polk’s Witchmark with the slow-burn rivals-to-lovers romance of Naomi Novik’s Uprooted.

Here is what the team behind HUNT THE EVER WILD had to say about this exciting, new title…

Author S.E. Kiser –
“As a queer, rural, working class writer, I feel the divisions enforced by our binary, individualistic society in my bones: woman vs man, city vs country, humanity vs nature, rich vs poor, practicality vs passion, and, under capitalism, everyone vs everyone as we scrabble for scraps. Breathing life into this story of impractical, irrational, impossible love in the heart of the wilderness was a leap of faith I took to prove to myself that even the most entrenched dividing lines can be overcome – and that love, of any kind, can give us wings.”
Editor Desola Coker –
Hunt the Ever Wild caught me with its beguiling whimsy and gothic undertones, and the sublime Lichtenwald forest still haunts and entices me to this day. With expert plotting, lyrical writing and gorgeously intense characters, S.E. Kiser has woven a wonderful world, and I’m so excited that Angry Robot has the privilege to be bringing it to readers.”
Agent Eric Showers –
“S. E. Kiser’s Hunt the Ever Wild drew me in utterly with its vivid setting, and I couldn’t help but root for its characters from the very beginning. I absolutely loved the propulsive tension that built to almost unbearable levels between Sy and Anya.”

ABOUT THE BOOK: When a king calls a hunt for a phoenix in a deadly, magical forest, wizard Sy jumps at the chance. Years ago, he indentured himself to pay for his magical education, binding him by unbreakable spell to the wicked king. The prize is just enough to pay off his debt. He can’t split it. Neither can he survive the forest alone. He seeks Anya, a skilled huntress who lives on the forest’s edge, and lies about splitting the money.

But Anya is lying, too. Cursed by a vengeful witch after killing her familiar, Anya must find the phoenix and bind it to her before the summer solstice. Until then, she will suffer a gruesome transformation. With the forest swarming with wizards, she needs one on her side – for now.

Neither can split the prize. Neither can win alone. Betrayal is their only option.

But anything can happen in the wood.

And the wood is hungry.
