Announcing THE WORST MONK IN OMNU by MARIE BRENNAN!

We are thrilled to announce Angry Robot’s signing of THE WORST MONK IN OMNU from acclaimed author Marie Brennan. This smart new fantasy novel has high stakes and a cosy feel, and is the first book in a planned trilogy.

Here are some quotes about this charming new novel…

Editorial Director Ella Chappell:
“Marie Brennan is an iconic fantasy writer whose gorgeously crafted worlds have swept countless readers off their feet, so at Angry Robot we are delighted to be publishing her next incredible series: the charming, funny and engrossing tale of Diligence, who, despite their best intentions, is not a very good monk. We can’t wait to see readers fall in love with Diligence and their adventures the way we have.”

Agent Stevie Finnegan:
“Marie has had die-hard fans from her very first fantasy book and I was delighted when taking out a new series, to see a great portion of publishing still completely obsessed with her Lady Trent series. Worst Monk has her exactly on trend with a richly realised fantasy world and characters you can’t help but root for, perfect for fans of T. Kingfisher’s Paladin books or Becky Chambers’ Monk and Robot series. Angry Robot came in with such enthusiasm and passion to make this a splashy publication, I’m delighted to have them bringing this series to market.”

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Diligence-and-Care-in-All-Things, despite their name and their best intentions, is not a very good monk. When they try to fast, they faint; when they meditate too long, they fall asleep. No matter what task they’re assigned, they will find some way to mess it up. After Diligence accidentally drops the sacred statue of the One-Is-All during a major festival, they have one final hope to avoid being shipped off to the strictest of temples: They can prove their worth by undertaking the most gruelling of pilgrimages, leaving the monastery they call home and travelling far and wide, coming face-to-face with unquiet spirits, ravaging bandits and, worst of all, their fellow pilgrims – one of whom, a young man called Nish, is definitely more than he first appears.

Rules have governed Diligence’s life since they first entered the cloister, but out here, things are much less black and white. Faced with a choice between breaking their vows and failing those in need… what would the worst monk in Omnu do?
