Win an ARC of Restoration or Hard Spell

By

Ok, so here’s the deal.

We have a few ARCs of Hard Spell by Justin Gustainis and The World House: Restoration by Guy Adams left in the office.

Would you like one?

If so, here’s what we want you to do:

In the comments section of this thread, give us the URL of something robot-related. Could be an image, an article, a song, whatever.

The ones that meet our arbitrary guidelines for winning (which we will probably make up on the spot) will win. Along with your link, simply state which book you would prefer, should you win. You’ll need to put your email address in so we can contact you, but that won’t show up in the comments (unless you type it into the comments box itself, of course. Duh).

Because we realise that Restoration needs you to have read The World House before you can fully enjoy it, we’re going to throw in a copy of that, too.

Now go – find some ‘bots. Deadline is Monday 13th June, 8.00am (GMT, or BST, or whatever the hell it is at the moment – UK time, anyway).

http://mostlynerdycrochet.blogspot.com/2011/04/i-cant-stay-mad-at-what-is-essentially.html – Bender will win for sure! ;-)
If it happens I’d like the “Restoration”, please (I have already bought “World House”).

The World House: Restoration please, if I win. :)

When I was growing up, I had a robot. I swear that no robot before or since has equaled it in coolness – and I certainly no that no robot is able to evoke such amazingly strong feelings of nostalgia. I loved that robot, and I only wish I knew what had happened to it.

It’s catchphrase?

“I am Tommy the Robot. Please give my best wishes to everybody.”

Who could ask for a more wonderful automaton? I love Tommy. I hope he loves me.

A video of Tommy can be seen below, just to give you an idea of how awesome he is/was.

There’s a Tamil movie called “Endhiran The Robot” with Rajnikanth (a phenomenally famous actor from South India). His movies are generally centred around how great a chap he is.

For your viewing pleasure (and pain, trust me), since my comment is about the movie and you should definitely not waste your time watching the whole thing:

Two absolutely stunning action sequences – http://youtu.be/7yBnl_krN_U

A few delectable scenes, including the title sequence – http://youtu.be/tmSGpe41ZvA

A “robot dance sequence” from the movie – http://youtu.be/Rkpke0HcDqI

Unrelated bonus if you live in the UK, a robot exhibition at Chatham – http://bit.ly/kqAoqP

Oh, forgot this – if Endhiran did tickle your arbitrary guidelines, either book will do, thanks, although Restoration sounds more my thing.

If I’m picked, “Hard Spell” would be cool.

Here’s a nice song about a robot looking for love:

Just try getting it out of your head.

Could I please have ‘Restoration’.

It’s older, it’s traditional, it’s sincere — it’s also the first song about robots I ever heard, so it’s nostalgic. A girl and her metal love. Awww.

#12 on the soundtrack (scroll down to hear individual tracks): “Silver”

Restoration would be awesome! (Yanks are eligible, right? If not, the song’s still a heart-tugger. Go. Listen.)

I’d love HARD SPELL. Thanks!

I’d love a copy of Restoration! This is an artist that makes awesome steampunk jewelry. Here’s one of their cooler scupltures! :)

I cannot believe that no one has brought up Penny Arcade’s “Automata” comic arc. For shame.

Though there are two distinct story arcs for this material – “Automata” and “Blood and Oil” – the later one is I think arguably better and so I’ve provided the link to the first comic in the latter (“Blood and Oil”) sequence (from July 23, 2010):

If this comment proves to be the winning entry I choose to receive a copy of “The World House: Restoration”, partly because you’ve offered to bundle it with “The World House” and partly because Guy Adams is an exceptionally good writer.

I choose Hard Spell. I already own World House and have the sequel preordered.

Mark Brown makes the most amazing robot clocks from recycled materials. Before I saw his work, I always thought robots were a little creepy, but he revealed their potential for fun:

I would love The World House: Restoration (and its prequel), but I’m not picky; Hard Spell sounds wonderful, too!
